| Who Are We? We Are Community
Builders |
| We are passionate
about children and safe places for them to have
fun. We are people who care about nature and the
environment. |
|
|
| History |
| In 1994, after decades
of saving and seven years of searching, the members
of Champlain and Maple Leaf Divisions of Girl Guides
purchased 100 acres of beautiful property in Springwater
Township to build a Guide Camp of our own. We named
the property CAMP TEWATENO a Wendat (Huron) word
for sisterhood. |
|
Hundreds of
girls and adults participate in Guiding in Champlain
and Maple Leaf Divisions, the co-owners of Camp
Tewateno. Their boundaries encompass a large part
of Simcoe County - from Ivy to Oro Station, and
from Bradford to Elmvale. These girls and women
make a visible impact in your community. Through
their business associations, their community service
work, and their home life, they are examples of
good citizens locally, nationally and globally,
but the camp is not for girl guides alone. It
is also widely used by Scouts Canada groups, schools,
churches, and a wide range of organizations.

|
| Camp Tewateno provide's
a place to teach our young people to live in harmony,
with each other and with nature. They learn life
and survival skills, and learn about the natural
environment and how to preserve it. They develop
leadership and practical skills to guide them in
today's changing society. Many friendships are forged
in the glow of evening campfires in a safe, nurturing
and supportive environment. We have built Camp Tewateno
with a heritage theme, giving participants a chance
to experience briefly what it was like to live in
bygone days in a variety of accommodations.. |
|
|
| Take a virtual
tour down "Heritage Way" and visit each
of our six camp sites. Walk down Spirt Lane and
visit our unique and exquisite "Spirit Garden"
for a wonderful opportunity for quiet meditation.
